In celebration of the 3rd World Day of Regional Anaesthesia & Pain Medicine (WDRAPM), on January 31, 2026, the Vietnam Society of Anaesthesiologists (VSA) organized a scientific program under the theme “Equity – Access – Pain Relief for Every Patient.”

The program was conducted in a hybrid format, combining both in-person and virtual participation, connecting multiple professional sites across the country and attracting a large number of physicians, nurses, and healthcare professionals working in anaesthesiology, critical care, and pain medicine.

Connecting Professionals Nationwide

As part of the program, academic activities were coordinated across several major healthcare and educational institutions throughout Vietnam, including:

  • Hanoi Medical and Pharmaceutical University Hospital – Vietnam National University, Hanoi

  • Thai Nguyen National Hospital

  • Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital

  • Buon Ma Thuot University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital

  • FV Hospital

This nationwide collaboration, spanning from North to South Vietnam, created an open academic forum where colleagues participated in workshops, professional discussions, and shared clinical experiences in regional anaesthesia and pain management.

Scientific Sessions Focused on Current Clinical Practice

The program featured numerous specialized presentations addressing highly relevant and practical topics in contemporary clinical practice, including:

  • Mechanism-based approaches to the management of postherpetic neuralgia, incorporating multimodal strategies to improve pain control and enhance patients’ quality of life.

  • The role of adductor canal block in postoperative pain management following knee surgery, providing effective analgesia while preserving early mobility.

  • Obturator nerve block during transurethral bladder surgery to control adductor muscle reflexes and improve surgical safety.

  • Interventional techniques for spinal pain management, including epidural steroid injections, transforaminal steroid injections, and epidural adhesiolysis, with recommendations for fluoroscopy-guided procedures using contrast agents to ensure accuracy and patient safety.

All presentations emphasized evidence-based practice and highlighted patient safety as a fundamental principle in clinical care.

International Collaboration for a Common Goal

This year’s program also benefited from the professional collaboration of the European Society of Regional Anaesthesia & Pain Therapy (ESRA) through the participation and support of Prof. Eleni Moka, President of ESRA.

Her involvement demonstrated the spirit of global cooperation in regional anaesthesia and pain medicine, bringing together specialists worldwide with a shared commitment to ensuring equitable access to effective pain management for all patients.

Promoting Evidence-Based Practice and Improving Quality of Care

The International Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Management Program, held in celebration of the World Day of Regional Anaesthesia & Pain Medicine 2026, concluded successfully and delivered valuable educational and professional benefits to all participants.

Through this scientific initiative, the Vietnam Society of Anaesthesiologists once again reaffirmed its leading role in fostering professional collaboration, promoting continuous medical education, and advancing evidence-based clinical practice, thereby contributing to improvements in patient care and treatment quality nationwide.

The Vietnam Society of Anaesthesiologists sincerely thanks all colleagues for their enthusiastic participation and extends its appreciation to partner institutions for their support. We look forward to welcoming the professional community to future WDRAPM activities in the years ahead.

We cordially invite colleagues to view a selection of photographs documenting highlights from the program.
